► Medical Student Newspaper

Motion to First Council

Medical Student Newspaper

This Union notes:

  1. Medical Student was founded in February 2004 due to huge interest in a student publication targeted at medical students in London.

  2. Medical Student was founded and staffed by full time Medical Students.

  3. The paper has fallen under the editorial control of the Medical Students Officer of ULU.

  4. The paper is run on a voluntary, break-even budget, using sponsorship and advertising raised by the editorial team.

5.      The paper has been recognised within the Medical community as an example of excellence in information dissemination, and has secured long-term sponsorship from the BMA.

6.      Medical Student is still funded through the London Student budget.

This Union believes:

  1. The paper has had a very successful period in which it has had time to establish itself.

  2. The paper has raised the profile of ULU and brought prestige to the organisation.

  3. The students working deserve recognition for the phenomenal success they have made of this student led initiative.

  4. The long-term future of the paper needs to be secured.

  5. Continuity of the paper and independent journalistic integrity are essential

This Union resolves:

1.       To form the Medical Student Editorial Board

2.       The editorial Board shall be chaired by the ULU Medical Students Officer

3.       The membership of the board shall be:

The General Manager or his/her appointee shall act as secretary to the board.

4.       The board should meet at least twice per academic year and its report should be submitted to:
