ULU LEAGUES

London students have more organised sports competitions than any other students in the UK. In addition to national competitions, we provide over twenty knock-out cup competitions and a myriad of different league programmes. Current competitions include Football, Hockey, Basketball, Rugby Union, Netball, Cricket, Badminton, Squash and Lacrosse. Most of these offer participation by both sexes in either individual or mixed teams.

All fixtures and results are published on the new ULU sports website www.ulusport.org.uk. The website is regularly updated so that the on-line tables accurately reflect the state of play, Results and match reports are also published in London Student, the London-wide student newspaper available in all the UL unions.

In order to participate in these competitions, all you need to do is trial for your college teams (contact your sports officer from our website). Our leagues are based on merit, so the better athletes get to play against each other at a high level, while everyone else can have some fun in 2nd - 7th team competitions.

The leagues are organised by ULU as a service to your college union. If you want your voice to be heard in directing the leagues, all you need to do is get in touch with your college sports officer. All these elected sports officers meet with us regularly to set rules for the operation of the leagues, or to agree to run new leagues. So if we don't yet do your sport, speak to your college sports officer - if there are enough other teams the league will take place.

ULU League sport provides a great opportunity to meet new people, make new friends, travel the capital and develop new skills that will help with your studies and in getting a job. Employers are often looking for a more rounded candidate and someone who has played for a college team in national and regional competition can be very attractive to them. It also provides the opportunity for an extended social life, not wholly confined to your college

In addition, the Sports Development days are set to continue, enabling athletes from College Clubs to improve their on-the-field skills. Several successful days were run last year notably for Women's Football and Women's Rugby.

If you need any details about the league that you can't get from your college sports officer or our website, contact the Leagues Co-ordinator Darel on [email protected] or telephone 020 7664 2009
