► International Students and the right to appeal

Motion to First Council

International Students and the right to appeal

This Union notes:

  1. The Immigration, Nationality and Asylum Bill which is being debated in parliament this year will restrict the right of appeal for those refused a visa to study in the UK.

  2. Clause 4 of the bill amends the 2002 Act to remove the right of appeal.

  3. 30% of international students receive a visa on appeal.

  4. That NUS, Universities UK are also opposed to the withdrawal of the right to appeal.

This Union believes:

  1. That international students contribute greatly to the cultural diversity of the Higher Education sector.

This Union resolves:

  1. To lobby to have the Immigration, Nationality and Asylum Bill amended.

Proposed by:  Stewart Halforty, ULU President

Seconded by:  Saad Mirza, ULU International Students’ Officer
