► Sports and Societies Officer

01/02 Policy

Valid AULUC 2007

SPORTS AND SOCIETIES OFFICER

Proposed by ULU Governance Committee

THIS UNION NOTES

1.                    That Governance Committee was mandated by Council to review the position of part-time Sports & Societies Officer due to the non-effectiveness of this role.

THIS UNION BELIEVES

1.       That the position of Sports & Societies Officer on the Executive Committee is superfluous due to these duties being undertaken on a full-time basis by other Officers, and that Council and it's Sub-committees would be served more effectively and efficiently by an Executive officer with a different fundamental remit.

THIS UNION FURTHER BELIEVES

1.       That it is important not to lose representation through the Executive Committee by diminishing Officer numbers.

2.                    That it is anomalous for an Executive Officer to be designated Chair of Sports & Societies Committee, as the Union Chair chairs the other Sub-committees of Council (Executive Committee and Finance Committee).

THIS UNION RESOLVES

1.       To remove all reference to the Sports & Societies Officer from the Constitution and Regulations.

THIS UNION MANDATES

1.       Governance Committee to review the membership of the Executive Committee with a view to identifying a new position & remit to replace that of the Sports & Societies Officer, and to make proposals to ULU Council at the earliest possible time.

2.       The Union Chair to chair the Sports & Societies Committee henceforth.

3.       The Union Chair to ensure the resultant Constitutional amendments are brought before the relevant University body for ratification at the earliest possible time.

PASSED: 21st January 2002
