“I’d have to say that those who may be put off by New Cross’s gritty urban exterior are truly missing out on a unique and fantastic living experience. With central London 15 minutes away, beautiful Greenwich park on its doorstep, an innovative music scene, and a thriving, eclectic and close-knit artistic and activist community, I feel that New Cross can really offer something for everyone. And, for London, the rent ain’t bad either!”
Jennifer Huseman, SU President

As always, it is imperative that every London student makes it down to Goldsmiths Students’ Union on a Wednesday night at least once during the year. Why? It’s Club Sandwich of course, offering the tastiest delights in pop, disco, r’n’b and indie from 9 until the early morn. Look out also for our diverse range of entertainments, including regular live music nights for which The Independent recently awarded us a whopping 5 out of 5 stars!

This coming year, Goldsmiths Students’ Union will set its sights on the completion of our ground-breaking governance reform GOLDSMITHS COLLEGE after resounding approval of the proposedchanges via a referendum of the student body in May 2006. The new system will ensure greater representation, empowering our students to influence change with greater ease, while securing a stronger political and financial future. The intention is that it will be fully implemented by August 2007.

buildingWhilst working extensively on a wide breadth of campaigning activity throughout the year, with student involvement driving the agenda, the student-officer team will be delivering on the following Unionled campaigns:

1. Childcare:Ensuring all students with childcare commitments are supported and so that childcare provision is accessible and affordable for all who need it.

2. Access All Areas: Ensuring all students have equal access to learning resources and support services no matter what their mode of study (especially to the library, the VLE and IT resources).

3. Fair and Green: Ensuring the College fulfils environmental best practice in all matters affecting the running of the institution and becomes a recognised fair-trade university. This will build on the success of last year’s campaign, for which we received an Environmental Excellence Award from Lewisham Council.
