ULU LECTURE SERIES -
PHD SUPERVISION
ULU are pleased to announce the first of a series of lectures addressing issues of practical importance to students, academics and those working in higher education.
Recent major changes, such as the opening up of the sector to market forces and the drive towards widening participation, have posed widespread challenges and generated raised student expectations, with consequent pressures on universities to deliver. The aim of the lecture series is to stimulate discussion on some of the issues that been come to the fore as a result of these developments.
To coincide with the re-launch of ULU’s postgraduate academic welfare advice service the first lecture, to be given by John Wakeford, will be on the theme of PhD supervision. It will be held on Wednesday, 1st November 2006 at 1pm in room 3E, 3rd floor, ULU, Malet Street.
John Wakeford is founder and director of the Missenden seminars and national development programmes, including graduate school development, quality assurance and enhancement, and RAE strategy. His areas of special interest include postgraduate research student supervision. He also provides confidential advice to doctoral students.
The events are free, open to students and academic staff. Seats, which are limited, will be allocated on a first come basis. Please email Annie Mitchell at [email protected] to guarantee your seat.
