GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE

Proposed by Governance Committee

 

Constitution and Regulation Anomalies

 

THIS UNION NOTES

 

1.          There are several anomalies contained within the current constitution and regulations.

2.          Governance Committee has identified several of these and now puts them to Council for approval.

3.          That there is no longer the position of Sports and Societies Officer on the ULU Executive Committee. That Governance has agreed to carry out a review of the Executive Committee

 

THIS UNION RESOLVES

 

1.       Change section 5.6 h of the Constitution (page6) from “ be responsible for the election of all officers of the Union �? to “ Be responsible for elections in accordance with Section 13 of this Constitution “.

1.          To change 8.7 of Constitution (page 8) from “shall be chaired by the Sports and Societies Officer�? to “shall be chaired by the Chair of Council�?.

2.          Add to section A of the regulations (page 5) after section listing Non-Sabbatical Officers,  “There shall be a Chair of Council�?.

3.          To change E.11.B of regulations (page 43) from “a two-thirds majority�? to “a simple majority�?.

4.          Remove from section F iii of the regulations (page 45) “of Elections or�?.

 

THIS UNION FURTHER RESOLVES

 

1.       To hold elections for next year’s Executive Committee as per the current regulations as normal.

2.       To mandate Governance Committee to carry out a full review of the current Executive Committee, in liaison with all members of that committee, and to bring recommendations to the last Council of the year (27th May 2002). Any new or amended roles will then be elected in time for the Academic Year 2003/04.
