Valid AULUC 2008
INTERCOLLEGIATE ACTIVITIES, COMPETITION AND RIVALRY
Proposed by: Barry Edmonstone [Chair Imperial College Inter-Hall Football League]
Seconded by: Mustafa Arif [Imperial College]
THIS UNION NOTES
1. The University of London has colleges.
2. The colleges have students spread across many separate campus locations.
3. Students identify with their colleges, but not necessarily with the University.
4. ULU sporting leagues exist and provide an important outlet for healthy competition and rivalry.
THIS UNION BELIEVES
1. ULU should promote and facilitate competitions and activities that encourage friendly competition and rivalry between colleges.
2. That such activities should not be limited to the dedicated sportsmen and women in collegiate sports teams.
3. That there would be benefit in reviving old inter-Collegiate activities (especially RAG cooperation, sporting events, 'UL Olympics', mascotry).
4. That new ideas (e.g. 'ULU Vision') should be explored and if possible expanded from existing events at constituent colleges.
5. That the creation of Inter-Hall, Inter-College or Inter-Departmental events can only strengthen ULU and encourage greater participation in events which benefit the members.
6. That these events can occur with minimum funding but encourage large participation.
THIS UNION RESOLVES
1. To establish an 'Inter Collegiate Activities and Competition Forum'.
2. That the Forum shall be chaired and convened by the Vice-President [Sports & Societies] and shall meet at least once per term.
3. That there should be a representative from each College on the Forum.
4. That each of the Sabbatical Officers should be a member of the Forum.
5. That the Forum may co-opt additional members as it sees fit.
6. That the Forum should conceive, explore and coordinate ideas for inter-collegiate student activities.
7. That next year's Sabbatical Officers should review the constitutional position
of this forum and give considerations to establishing a part-time officer position to coordinate such inter collegiate student activities.
