► A.2.1 The President shall

A.2.1       The President shall:

 

a)                  Be responsible for all relations with the University;

b)                  Co-ordinate the work of the Executive Committee, liaising with the relevant Union Officers on all appropriate matters;

c)                   Be responsible for all matters relating to the interpretation of the Constitution and any regulations; except Finance Regulations, Standing Orders, Election Regulations and Building Regulations;

d)                  Be responsible for all relations with external bodies and media.

e)                  Be responsible for all matters related to the Union’s Public Relations;

f)                    Regularly discuss the funding of ULU with the college funders;

g]             Be the first point of contact with the General Manager of the Union.

h]                             Be responsible for all matters relating to staffing;

i)                    Attend, and where appropriate chair, all committees concerned with staffing and write any reports necessary (within the bounds of the Staff-Student Protocol); and

j)                                              Convene all political campaigns.

 

Representation

 

i)                    Shall attend all University Committees to which the President is an ex-officio or appointed member.

ii)                   Shall write any reports or letters consequential to these Meetings as seems appropriate.

 

Accountability

 

iii)                 Shall set the Agenda for all Meetings of the Council and Executive and act as secretary to these meetings and ensure their smooth running.

iv)                  Shall attend meetings of the MedGroup.

v)                   Shall convene and attend meetings of the President’s Council and shall attend the Small and Specialist Colleges Forum.

vi)                  Shall report to the appropriate bodies and seek approval for any major policy decisions.

vii)                Shall attend meetings of the Intercollegiate Hall Presidents.

viii)               Shall ensure that Union mandates are fulfilled and take responsibility for the implementation of policy.

 

Communication

 

ix)                  Shall be responsible, in consultation with the V-P [Finance, Services and Operations for the financing, development and production of all ULU’s publications, which shall include the ‘Student Guide’ and other publications.

x)                   Shall deal on a day-to-day basis with all media enquiries and pass them on as appropriate.

xi)                  Shall liaise regularly with other Students’ Unions, NUS and other National, International Student bodies.

xii)                Shall be responsible for the marketing of ULU.

 

Other

 

xiii)               Shall organise the Honorary Life Membership Awards Ceremony.

xiv)               Shall in conjunction with the Vice-President (Welfare and Student Affairs) and the General Manager, co-ordinate ULU training and Executive training.

 

The President shall be empowered to act on matters related to the above Terms of Reference of a minor, non-contentious or urgent nature so long as any such actions are reported at the first opportunity to the appropriate body.  The President shall act on behalf of all the other Sabbaticals in their absence.
