Valid AULUC 2008
Proposed by: James MacColl [ULU Vice-President Welfare & Student Affairs]
Seconded by: Mark John Joven [ULU, Postgraduate Students’ Officer], Charlotte Dawkins [ULU President]
THIS UNION NOTES
1. University of London Ordinances:
- Annex to Ordinance 3
University Libraries Committee Constitution includes:
“A Student representative appointed by the University of London Union, who should normally be a postgraduate pursuing a research degree”.
2. Currently, the Vice-President [Welfare & Student Affairs] sits on the University Libraries Committee, although this is not required by the ULU Constitution or Regulations, and no election has taken place.
THIS UNION BELIEVES
1. That the aforementioned constitution of the University Libraries Committee aims to ensure that a frequent user of the libraries at Senate House and their College is a member of the Committee.
2. The ULU Postgraduate Students’ Officer is the most appropriate officer for the committee as he/she is elected to represent postgraduate students, which is specified by the aforementioned constitution.
3. There are issues relating to undergraduate students, such as short-term loans which particularly affect those on courses with high numbers.
THIS UNION RESOLVES
1. To amend the ULU Regulations thus:
To insert into A:1 B (The Postgraduate Students’ Officer shall):
“vii) Attend the University of London Libraries Committee as the Union’s representative, this duty deferring to the Vice-President [Welfare & Student Affairs] in case of absence.”
2. To mandate the Vice-President [Welfare & Student Affairs] to inform the University of this change.
3. To mandate the Vice-President [Welfare & Student Affairs] to lobby the University for a second undergraduate student place.
PASSED: 27th January 2003
