► Ammendment to Regulations [Correction of Anomalies]

02/03 Policy

Valid AULUC 2008

AMENDMENT TO REGULATIONS [CORRECTION OF ANOMALIES MOTION]

Proposed by: Ben McMechan [University College London]

Seconded by: Mike Johnson (Students’ Union Royal Holloway University of London], Karim Nanji (Queen Mary University of London], Tuuli Kousa [London School of Economics], Matt Best (St George’s Hospital Medical School], Johann Malawana [Queen Mary University of London)], Dan Gibbons [ULU Medical Students’ Officer], Susie Reilly [ULU Students with Disabilities Officer]

THIS UNION NOTES

1.       That within A:2 B b it states that the Vice President Finance and Societies “Shall be the first point of contact with the General Manager of the Union”.

2.       That within A:2 B d it states that the Vice President Finance and Societies shall be responsible for “All matters relating to staffing”.

3.       The current set of Regulations pertaining to this matter were changed in 1996 when the job structures for Sabbatical positions at ULU were changed.

4.       The 1996 Regulations created an anomaly in so much as the President of ULU is ½ of the line management structure for the General Manager alongside the Director of Staff and Student Services.

THIS UNION BELIEVES

1.       In keeping with the majority of Student’s Unions in the UK where the position of President exists that it is prudent for the President to act as first point of contact with the General Manager on all matters.  This is in accordance with Union Notes 4.

2.       Generally the Chair of Staffing lies within the office of President or that of an equivalent position, namely General Secretary.

3.       A minor amendment to the job roles at ULU would facilitate a better understanding of Sabbatical Officers roles and remit within the organisation.

THIS UNION RESOLVES

1.          To remove A:2 B b and A:2 B d from the job description of Vice President Finance and Societies with immediate effect .

2.       To add A:2 B b and A:2 B d  to the job description of President with immediate effect.

3.       To remove A:2 B l iii “ Shall attend, and where appropriate chair, all committees concerned with staffing and write any reports necessary  (within the bounds of the staff protocol agreement)” with immediate effect from Vice President Finance and Societies job description.

4.       To add A:2 B l iii “ Shall attend, and where appropriate chair, all committees concerned with staffing and write any reports necessary  (within the bounds of the staff protocol agreement)” with immediate effect to the President job description.

5.       To remove ‘ The Vice President [Finance and Societies] shall convene weekly briefings of the President with the General Manager in addition to any management meeting’ from the last paragraph of A:2 B.
