Stonewall Recruitment Launch
Stonewall’s aims to ensure that gay and lesbian rights are translated into employment which is a testament to what can achieved in terms of equality. Their Diversity Champions programme , for instance, offers help and guidance to over 200 organisations such as Accenture, IBM and HSBC.
Stonewall, for the second year running, held their Recruitment Guide Launch (sponsored by Credit Suisse) at ULU. They very kindly asked Vicki Slater, ULU President to say afew words, along side Ben Summerskill, the Chief Executive of Stonewall.
Vicki Slater said
“I want to start off by saying ULU is delighted that Stonewall have chosen ULU as the venue for their Launch. It is fantastic to be associated with such a worthwhile organisation.
The heart of ULU’s mission is to represent students from all walks of life, regardless of gender, ethinicity, and, of course, the reason we are all here tonight- sexuality. Only last night policy was passed to raise awareness about the fact that homosexual men can not give blood., It is crucial for ULU and students’ unions nationally to campaign for equality for all students, give support and ensure that all students leave university as confident individuals , free for discrimination.
Organisations like Stonewall are essential in achieving this and I very much applaud their work and the companies signed up.
I hope you all have a great evening and wish Stonewall every success for the year ahead.”
It was fantastic to see so many students at the Launch. Jimmy Tam, General Secretary of LSE Union attended, as well as numerous students from the LGBT Groups of KCLSU, Goldsmiths, Queen Mary, Imperial and of course, Laura Purll LGBT ULU Officer.
Purll said, "Stonewall goes that one step further in ensuring equality for lesbians, gay men and bisexuals especially in the workplace, the recruitment guide helps undergraduates find the best jobs, with the best working environment and the best equal opportunities policy. Stonewall aim to help you, the students, in light of the fact that it has been unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation in the work place since 2003."
