► The Club

The Club

At the University of London Karate Club (ULKC), we understand karate as a form of self-defence. Hence our main focus lies on realistic applications that would be useful in an actual combat situation.

Same as in the majority of karate clubs, our training consists of kihon (basics), kata (forms) and kumite (pair work / sparring). The techniques we use are based on (but not limited to) the Shotokan style.

ULKC provides instruction for complete beginners up to advanced dan grades. Our aim is to produce highly competent students who can take the belt that they have attained to any club in the world and be proud that they are of an extremely high standard.

The other side of ULKC is our Sports Karate Squad sessions.  If you're interested in training with internationally renowned athletes and winning medals then squad sessions are a must. And we also run an extremely active social activities programme, including trips to Czech Republic, Germany and Japan, special seminars and, of course, the famous Christmas Party.
