Gymnastics | |
The gymnastics side of the club trains at Talacre sports centre in Kentish Town, which is a fully equipped purpose built gym. As well as all the men and women's apparatus, it also has a full size sprung floor, tumble track, and a large foam pit. We train on Tuesdays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, and our classes are aimed at gymnasts of all abilities. Our coach is highly qualified in artistic gymnastics, and classes are structured so that people can work towards specific goals, such as learning how to backflip. | ![]() |
People are welcome to come along to classes just to get fit or learn new moves, but there is also the chance to compete and represent ULU at competitions. At the beginning of the year a large team competed at the Birmingham invitational competition, which had several different levels including a novice level for those new to gymnastics. It was a very successful competition, with the team winning medals in the novice, intermediate and advanced categories. | ![]() |
A team of four girls recently competed at BUCS National Finals, competing at Level 2 on floor, vault and beam. The team had solid performances all round, until sadly one member was injured during the final piece of apparatus and was unable to finish her routine. Despite this, the team still managed to place 8th in the country. In the men's category, two gymnasts competed at Level 1, competing some very high difficulty moves and receiving excellent individual scores. | ![]() |
This year the committee decided to organise a club competition, in order to give people the experience of a gymnastics competition in a friendly environment. It was aimed at ULU gymnasts who have been coming all year to have a chance to show off their new skills, performing a set floor routine and two vaults, with a novice and intermediate category. The competition was a great success, and everyone performed fantastic routines, especially those who had never done a gymnastics competition before. We hope that we will be able to run more club competitions in the future! | ![]() |

Trampolining not only is great way to keep fit and meet students from other universities, it is also a great wayto represent you’re university. The unique thing about university trampoline competitions (Including BUCS) is that they include novice levels, which means within your first term of trampolining you could be competing for ulu! We are a very successful trampoline team at all levels, last year we totalled 7 medals and trophies over 4 including the Scottish Open, Irish Open (International competition) and BUCS. |

So far this year we won two trophies at the Manchester Open, and a team of 4 girls represented ULU atBUCS and did extremely well considering it was one team member’s first trampoline competition! We are hoping for more success at the Irish open 5th April – 7th April, taking a team of 14 (our largest team ever!). Building on the success of the gymnastics in house competition we are eager to host our own ULU in house competition, watch this space! |
