
■ Recycling - ULU is currently starting a new contract with a Waste management company called Greenstar.
■ Awareness - We have a new awarness campagin started at the begining of the year called "Burn Calories, not Electricity", designed to get people using the stairs rather than the lifts.
■ E&E Improvments - We have installed eCubes on all possible fridges and freezers across the building. Thses drastically reduce the amount of energy a fridge uses.
■ Campagin Groups - We are involved in two campaign groups:

■The primary programme referred to for this award will be the Annual Charity Week for Orphans, run by our ULU ISoc Network in partnership with Islamic Relief, raising funds specifically for orphans in the most deprived parts of the world to primarily sponsor them, and supported by the Union. On this page ULU hopes to offer you, the student, important information and advice on how to be a good greeny and save the planet one piece at a time. Below are some hints and tips on what YOU can do, along with some important links on how to find out more.
One of the biggest things you can do to make a difference on your Co2 impact on the environment is all about what you eat. Seasonal eating of vegetables and reducing the amount of meat you eat can make a huge difference. Remember... a meat eater on a bike creates more C02 than a 4x4 driving veggie!

So what to eat... but don't forget what you drink!

In the Kitchen:
■ Boil a kettle with only as much water as you need.
■ Use a microwave to heat up food... it uses less energy!
■ Cover pots and pans when boiler... they will boil quicker.
■ Cook several different foods at one time with a steamer.
■ Defrost your fridge freezer regularly
■ Shut that fridge door!
Washing Clothes:
■ Run your washing machine at 30, it works just as well for normal clothes.
■ Make sure your washing machine is full when you put it on.
■ Avoid tumble drying, let your clothes breathe and air dry them instead!
Heating Water:
■ Turning your central heating down by just 1 degree can save as much as 10 %
Lighting:
■ (You know what I am going to say!) Use energy efficient light bulbs...
