Dodgeball Tournaments

Dodgeball is an energetic fun sport that allows participation by mixed teams and people of varying abilities. Whether you are a total beginner or someone who has played a few times, you are invited to experience and enjoy this rapidly growing sport.

The aim of each team is to eliminate opposing team members by striking them with thrown balls, or catching balls thrown by opposing players; all this has to be done whilst dodging to prevent the opposition from doing the same.

The basic rules of dodgeball

  • Teams are 6-a-side
  • Three (3) balls in play at the start
  • Matches consist of 3 games
  • Each game is usually 3 minutes long

Three players from each team run to compete for possession of the ball at the start of each period, the other players remain at back of the court. After the start, players can move freely in their half of the court.

Players are 'Out' when hit by a throw from the opposing team, which strikes them on the full. Bounces do not count and neither do deliberate head shots.

Players are out if their thrown ball is caught by a member of the opposite team. Players are allowed to fumble the ball while catching but if another player, surface or object touches the ball before the catch is completed the catch does not count

Players can use a ball in their possession to block a ball thrown by the opposing team (the player must retain control of the blocking ball when executing a block)
